easyJet’s flight from Tirana to Geneva cancelled

easyJet announced that it cancelled its flight from Tirana to Geneva on March 22, 2020. The decision came as the measures to prevent spreading the coronavirus are leading towards the full shut down of Albania’s only operational airport.

On Sunday, flight from Tirana to Istanbul was operated as usual by Air Albania, while Wizz Air flew from the country’s capital to Memmingen in Germany.

Tirana International Airport (TIA) announced on Saturday that all flights will be suspended on March 23, 2020 except the flight to and from Istanbul, operated by Air Albania.

“Following on the situation caused by the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), according to Albanian Civil Aviation Authority, all flights as of March 23, 2020, are suspended until further notice. Air Albania remains active with flights to and from Istanbul,” TIA announcement reads followed by a message by the airport’s CEO:

“Tirana International Airport remains open to humanitarian flights, repatriation flights, cargo and all flights that are needed to overcome this great challenge for all of us,” TIA’s Chief Executive Officer, Constantin von Alvensleben says.

Tirana International Airport advises the passengers to contact the air carriers or the travel agencies for further information regarding the cancellation of their flights.
