As borders are opening around the world, Emirates wants passengers to travel next destination with confidence. Tat is why it is offering free Covid-19 insurance.
Emirates becomes the first airline to provide free cover for passengers’ health and quarantine costs. This in case they are diagnosed with COVID-19 while traveling.
“We’re keeping you safe on the journey and giving you extra security wherever you are in the world”, the carrier says.
The insurance cover is valid for 31 days from the moment travelers take their first flight. It covers them even if they travel onwards to another city.
By booking a flight on emirates.com, through contact centers, retail offices or travel agents, travelers will automatically receive free global cover for COVID-19 related costs.
What Emirates offers?
Emirates offers assistance at any time when someone flies between July 23, 2020 and October 31, 2020. Free global cover for all customers in every class, valid for 31 days. COVID-19 health expenses cover up to EUR 150,000 and quarantine costs EUR 100 per day for 14 days.
Air travel suffers
Air travel is suffering this year. Countries shut their borders and people are concerned about potentially becoming infected on flights or while traveling.
The cancellation or postponement of major events has also had a major impact on demand for flights.
Last month the International Air Transport Association (IATA) warned that 2020 will go down as the “worst” on record financially.
The global industry group said the plunge in travel caused by the coronavirus will drive airline losses of more than $84bn (£65bn) this year, as revenues fall by 50% compared to 2019.
The collapse in demand has already forced carriers around the world to cut flights and layoff or furlough tens of thousands of workers.
