Planes are landing at Albania’s second airport of Kukës as a testing phase before opening it. Authorities announce that they accelerated the construction of the airport, hoping it will be operational in April 2021.
Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku says that the opening of this airport will significantly reduce air ticket prices.
“Construction work has advanced and the terminal is nearing completion. About 80% of the works ended and in the other areas we hope to complete the whole process by the end of the month (March). Meeting all the necessary conditions and standards is a priority. With the opening of the Kukës airport there will be cheaper prices and definitely better services for everyone,” Balluku says.
Two more airports
She also gave details about Vlora airport. The winning company will be announced in a couple of days. Meanwhile, within the next four years work will start for two more airports in Albania: in Saranda and in Korça. They will help the tourism industry in the area.
“In a few days we will have the winner for the construction of Vlora Airport, a major development for the aviation industry. Meanwhile, I want to add that within the next four years we will start work for two other airports in the country only for tourist needs: The airport of Saranda and Korça,” minister Balluku says.
Currently, Tirana International Airport is the only one operating in the country. It was bought a while ago by the Albanian company Kastrati Group. The company announced the reduction of passenger tariffs.
Tirana International Airport (TIA) announced in January the reduction of the passenger service charge. It will be reduced by 2.5 euro, from 12.5 to 10 euro. TIA also unveils an investment plan.
Kastrati Group, bought the airport’s managing company, “Real Fortress Limited” from China. It says this and the plan will facilitate ticket prices and the overall development of the Albanian aviation and tourism.
