Wizz Air flights from Kukes to Austria, Germany & Switzerland

The first plane of Wizz Air landed this Friday at the airport “North Wings” in Kukës. This is Albania’s second airport. Therefore, the Hungarian airlines increases its operations from Albania from two airports.

From today, Wizz Air will operate flights from this airport to three countries: Austria, Germany and Switzerland. This comes as last year made Tirana International Airport, as one of its European bases. As a result, the flights from Tirana to European destinations have increased.

“Wizz Air brings its aircraft at North Wings International Airport, to begin the non-stop operations in May, that is to say more precisely with the first four destinations to Austria, Germany and Switzerland, initially twice a week,” Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama writes on Facebook.

Wizz Air flights from Kukes will start from 19 euros, meanwhile Rama says the border tax will no longer exist.

Furthermore, authorities announced that on Thursday, Albania received the proper certification from NATO okaying flights from Kukes airport.

The Kukes airport, with a total investment of $28.7m, is on a former refugee campsite, found 90 miles north-east of Albania’s capital. It was the shelter site for the many Albanian refugees of the Kosovo War in 1999.

It has a single runway and three parking spots for aircraft.

The construction of Kukes airport started in 2003. It is a donation from the United Arab Emirates. Since June 2016 it is under the administration of the Civil Aviation Authority.
