Albania to resume repatriation operations

As many Albanians are still stranded in Europe due to the border closure, as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the country’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama said on Friday that a new repatriation plan will be announced on Monday.

“Apologizing to all of those who are resident in Albania… who are stranded outside the closed borders, and also bearing in mind keeping the (infection) situation under control, we are ready to announce on Monday the gradual opening of the repatriation process, with the condition of the 14-day self-isolation, followed by strict security measures,” Rama wrote on Facebook.

Albania announced on April 1, 2020 that it ended the repatriation of the nationals stranded in different European countries.

However, the country’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said that all Albanian nationals still stranded abroad due to the border closures and would like to return home, should contact the authorities.

Phone numbers, emails and WhatsApp contacts were made public.
