Albania in Venice Biennale 2026

Albania’s “A place in the sun” at the Venice art Biennale 2026

Artist Genti Korini will represent Albania at the 61st Venice Art Biennale in 2026. His project “A Place in the Sun” will be part of the highly anticipated art event next year.

An international jury selected Korini’s proposal from among 17 applications. The jury was composed of Adela Demetja, Katerina Gregos, Blanche de Lestrange, Elian Stefa, and Arnisa Zeqo. The jury praised the project for the depth of its conceptual framework. They appreciated the precision of its visual language. The project also featured a compelling fusion of archival research, folklore, and imagination.

“A Place in the Sun” examines how collective memory and ideology shape identity and space. It connects Albania’s past with its entanglement in the broader Eastern European context. The project was developed with curator Małgorzata Ludwisiak. It establishes a rich visual dialogue. It also fosters an intellectual conversation with Polish experimental theater.

Genti Korini’s practice operates at the intersection of fiction and historical reality, past and present, abstraction and representation. It investigates how ideology manifests through image and form. The practice engages critically with the politics of aesthetics beyond the legacies of modernity and post-communism.

Genti Korini’s work focuses on the juxtaposition of modernity and modernism. This is within the cultural and historical framework of his native country, Albania. His work operates as a linkage between painting, sculpture, photography, and moving images. Korini, 46, has participated in many institutional solo and group exhibitions across Europe.

The 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia is titled In Minor Keys by Koyo Kouoh. It will run from Saturday 9 May to Sunday 22 November 2026. The preview will be on 6, 7, 8 May. It will take place at the Giardini and the Arsenale venues, and in various locations around Venice.
