COVID-19: Montenegro to close land borders with Albania

Montenegro is closing its borders with Albania, due to a surge of COVID-19 cases in the neighboring country.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in Tirana said: “given the growing number of active infected citizens in Albania, which currently is more than 700 (a limit previously set by Montenegrin authorities and which exceeds 25 infected persons per 100,000 inhabitants), Montenegrin authorities have decided to close land borders with Albania from Sunday midnight.”

Montenegro will only allow the entry of Albanian nationals who provide an official document with the COVID-19 negative test results at the border, taken within 48 hours.

Health professionals, medical researchers; personnel engaged in the transport of goods and any other transport personnel; diplomats, staff of international organizations, military personnel and humanitarian aid workers will be allowed to enter the Montenegrin territory.
