Schengen area borders closed until September? Macron suggests it

The external borders of the Schengen Area and the Schengen associated states are closed at the moment due to coronavirus pandemic and French president Emmanuel Macron suggested that they might stay so until September.

Macron raised the possibility of the external borders remaining closed until September during a videoconference last Friday with trade unions, thus prohibiting entry into the territory to most of the non-EEA travelers.

This will be a measure against another wave of the COVID-19 infections in the area that may be caused by an outer factor, like travelers coming from the U.S. and other countries.

Earlier the European Commission invited the Schengen Area members, and the associated states- Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, to prolong the external border closure for non-essential travel to EU for another month, until May 15. They have all complied.
