Turkey suspended all international flights on Saturday as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The country’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that “all international flights have been suspended for an indefinite period.”

The ban affects the route Tirana-Istanbul, as an Air Albania flights from the country’s capital to the Turkish metropolis, planned for Saturday, was cancelled.

Flights to and from Istanbul were the only ones allowed until Saturday from Albania’s Tirana International Airport, as all other routes to destinations in Europe, were suspended early in March.

With Turkey’s decision to ban all international flights, Tirana International Airport is now completely shut down, except for humanitarian and repatriation flights.

Meanwhile, domestic flights in Turkey aren’t cancelled, but are now subject to local authorities’ permission.
