Citizens of Albania and Kosova travel without border checks from November 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026. Authorities implemented the agreement signed last spring between the two governments, allowing free movement without passports or ID cards.
During this period, border authorities will check only vehicles with foreign plates. They will apply an expedited procedure to prevent long queues, especially at Morina and Vermica crossings.
Officials noted that the no‑check regime returned after a one‑month suspension in October. During this time, authorities registered and inspected vehicles and travelers. They added that even during that period, authorities did not apply controls on weekends. Official holidays also had no controls for citizens and vehicles with Albanian and Kosova plates.
The agreement aims to simplify travel and reduce border congestion. Authorities reported that the regime had already shown visible results, particularly during the summer season, when travel flows increase significantly.
Officials explained that the agreement offers times with free or reduced checks. These periods extend from May 1 to September 30 and from November 1 to February 28.
