Polish state rail operator PKP Intercity is preparing to launch a new overnight sleeper train. It will offer direct travel from southeastern Poland to Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest. The train will also travel to Munich in Germany.
The service is named EN Carpatia. It will start from Przemyśl in the southeastern Podkarpackie region. The first departure is scheduled for December 14, Polish media reports.
The train will leave at 17:51 local time. It is due to reach Munich the next morning at 10:24. This is a journey of around 16 hours. The return service from Munich will leave at 18:45 and arrive in Przemyśl at 10:10.
The route will run through Rzeszów, Kraków and Katowice in southern Poland before crossing into the Czech Republic. In Bohumín, several carriages will be detached. These carriages will continue to Bratislava and Budapest. Meanwhile, the main set travels through Vienna, Linz and Salzburg in Austria to Munich in southern Germany.
The train will serve as a EuroNight service with mandatory seat reservations and will include sleeper and couchette cars.
The new overnight route will allow reaching the capitals of three European countries directly from Poland. It will also connect to Bavaria in Germany without changing trains.
