Tourism is one of the main pillars of Albania’s economy. The new government set the goal of consolidating the country as a top Mediterranean destination. Its vision is year-round, sustainable, and competitive tourism in both European and global markets.
First, the four-year program focuses on policies and investments in sustainable and inclusive tourism. The government will create, manage, and brand six tourism regions under the “Albania 2030 Tourism Strategy.” As a result, the country will offer greater diversity and higher international standards.
Next, the government will transform the Port of Durrës into a modern hub for cruise ships and luxury yachts. At the same time, it will build 20 new marinas from Velipoja to Ksamil. With these steps, Albania aims to become a leader in Mediterranean maritime tourism.
Meanwhile, the government plans to double overnight stays by 2030. Consequently, annual tourism revenues should exceed €6.6 billion.
In addition, mountain tourism will play a key role. The government will develop the Albanian Alps and natural areas, turning the country into a destination for winter sports and unique outdoor experiences.
Furthermore, cultural heritage will remain a priority. Authorities will promote heritage sites and digitalize cultural calendars. This effort seeks to turn Albania into an “open-air museum.”
At the same time, the government will strengthen logistics infrastructure. The aim is to position the country as a hub for conferences, fairs, and international exhibitions.
The program also introduces a Digital Integrated Tourism Platform. This will include a national tourism register, an e-Visitor system for real-time registration of visitors, and a data platform to provide accurate statistics and support better decisions.
Moreover, the government will cooperate with UN Tourism to establish the International Academy of Tourism and Hospitality. This academy will train a new generation of professionals.
Finally, the government will ensure fairer beach management. It promises more public space and greater comfort for tourists.
